Leann Parker With reference to An Arrest and An occurance at OwlCreek bridge ExploreAmbrose Beirces treatment of the theme of justice.Ambrose Beirce lived between the years of 1842 - 1914 ,though his realiseof death can not be for certain. He lived during the period of the cultured war and was the author of supernatural stories. He wrote thosestories because he was interested in the war and crime and this ledtoo his two books Tales of soldiers and civilians and Can suchthings be?.Justice also played a huge fraction in Beirces opinion. He believed thatjustice had changed during the Civil war and that what was happeningwas somewhat unfair. He expressed this in a charge to make us flavoursympathetic. In each state their were different laws ,something youcould do in Kentucky you susceptibility not have got away with in New York City, justice was givenfor ma ny different reasons. Law during the Civilwarwas very different and the sheriffs (not police) found safekeeping Lawand order very difficult. The two main stories he wrote more or less were An Arrest and An occuranceat Owl Creek bridge. Beirce wrote his stories on the theme of justiceand he done this because he valued to explore the mind and feel expectand peace. The first story An Arrest is about a man Orrin Brower , a passingon the run. He was sent to prison for murdering his brother-in-law andhas longed for freedom ever since. He eventually manages to escape andruns into the forest but gets lost. He finally makes his way onto aroad but on the other side floating policy a figure of justice who takes himback to the jail but on... ...help out, farquhar opinion hewas on his side, he is then hung for doing something bad but his expire3 seconds turn into a lifetime before he is truly hung.Ambrose Beirce chose an innocent man called Peyton Farquhar as hismain character because he wanted us to feel sorry for him and angrywith the officers for causing the pain inflicted. Farquhar took the mapping in the war because he had always wanted to be part of it.He wasnot allowed to fight for his own country so when the confrontation trickedhim, he was no wiser and was trying to help his side and so he didwhat the enemy wanted. I observed that the flood of last winter had lodged a enceinte quantityof driftwood against the wooden pier at this end of the bridge. it isnow juiceless and would burn like a tow.In the last moments of his life we develop so much about hispersonality, feelings and thoughts.
